GOAL: To provide blessed prayer-blankets offering prayer, love, comfort, and blessings to those who are ill or suffering in any manner.
St. Maximilian Kolbe's Prayer Blanket Ministry was founded in October, 2007. The Ministry involves caring volunteers who cut fabric (fabric that is either provided by donations of fabric or fabric that is purchased with donated funds), and who sew two pieces together (approximately 36 inches by 36 inches), of lightweight cotton with simple, straight stitches.
The volunteers commit to prayer as they fulfill their part in the construction of the blankets for those who will receive them. Father then blesses the completed blankets. This beautiful act of sacrifice before the Lord truly transforms the blanket into a prayer blanket whose very threads become interwoven with pleas for healing on behalf of the recipient.
THE BLANKETS ARE AVAILABLE FREE OF COST at the parish office during normal office hours, for adults or children who may be afflicted physically or emotionally, or who just need to feel the enormous gift of love and warmth that emanates from the blankets. As one covers oneself with the blanket, he or she knows that they are not alone; that they are lifted up in prayer. The prayer blanket is a symbol of a faithsharing community's covering of prayer for the recipient. The prayer blanket makes prayer tangible for them; they are covered in prayer.
Your first opportunity to help is to think of someone who would benefit from such a gift of love and prayers.
This is a non-profit ministry; donations are accepted for fabric and other items necessary to make the blankets and its prayer card.
God is using this beautiful ministry not only to touch the lives of people who receive the prayer blanket while they are going through extremely difficult times in their lives, but the lives of those involved in this ministry as well. We are blessed to have so many people who give abundantly of their time, talents and treasures, thereby making these prayer blankets possible.
If you have given or received a prayer blanket and have a story to share, please write us. The volunteers treasure the testimony.
