First Reconciliation/Penance preparation is offered separately from regular Faith Formation (CCE) classes. First Reconciliation preparation is primarily done by parents. Assistance from the Parish is provided in the form of supplemental lessons, retreats and written resources. Children shall be prepared for and given the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Penance before the reception of Communion/Eucharist.
Preparation for this Sacrament will begin in the Fall. If our records indicate that your child meets the eligibility requirements indicated above, you will be notified to begin preparation. If you are not notified and you feel your child meets the eligibility requirements or you have additional questions, please contact the parish office.
The Archdiocesan guidelines state that a child is eligible to prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation/Penance if he/she is baptized and at least 7 years of age and in 2nd grade or older. In addition, all sacramental preparation begins with completion of at least one year of Faith Formation classes along with current enrollment in Faith Formation classes or be enrolled in Catholic school. Information on Faith Formation classes can be found under the Faith Formation tab.
