Reconciliation is a Sacrament of Mercy and relationship. We prepare children for this in the fall.

Is your child ready for First Reconciliation?
Before preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, children must first have a foundational understanding of who God is and what He asks of His Church. Children and youth will prepare for their First Reconciliation at home with their parents.  Parents will be given resources and support. 

Requirements for registration:

• Be a baptized Catholic; a copy of the Baptism Certificate should be turned in with registration.
• Be at least 7 years old and in 2nd grade or above
• Attend Mass regularly (weekly)
• Currently enrolled and attending their second year of  Faith Formation or attending a Catholic School, or participating in a Catholic homeschool program.
• Registration in the Faith Formation must include good attendance to be eligible.
• Parents and children must attend Sacrament Preparation Meetings.
• There is a $40 fee.

How do I know if my child is ready to prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation?

• My child knows when he or she has done something wrong.
• My child shows sorrow for wrongdoing and seeks forgiveness.
• My child is beginning to acknowledge the consequences of his or her actions.
• My child knows that God loves each of us and forgives us when we sin.

• Each child must be prepared for First Reconciliation before beginning First Communion classes so that they know the principles of an Examination of Conscience.
• It is recommended that children receive Reconciliation before receiving the Eucharist, it is not a requirement.  The only requirement is the completion of the First Reconciliation classes.

• Every time we teach a child to understand the difference between right and wrong, we are helping form his or her moral conscience.
• Every time we explain the difference between loving and unloving actions, we are preparing our children to choose that which is good.
• Each time we forgive or ask forgiveness of others, we help our children trust God’s mercy and forgiveness. In ordinary family life, such opportunities occur almost every day.
